Businesses survive on the ability that the management team has to initiate communication within and without the organization. Clear communication in a business setting ensures that people are focused on similar goals and the objectives of every proceeding within the firm are well understood by all the staff. Technology has helped organizations achieve this important aspect of business management by providing various platforms that allow easy and faster communication within the organization. The use of emails, office phones, and video communication has become the order of the say in the business world today. However, regulations must be established to ensure that this kind of communication does not affect the economy of an organization or the nation adversely. Various standard organizations help manage communication technology within organizations for the good of the firm and the surrounding community (Stallings, 2011). The government as well has its own regulating bodies that monitor communication technology to ensure that the mechanisms used are safe and for the common good of humanity.
The internet society made of three different groups is one of the regulating bodies in communication technology. Each of the body in this society has a responsibility that works towards standards development and publication, management of the internet operations and the standardization of protocols used in communication technology. Internet engineering task force (IETF) is the etiquette engineering and enlargement division of the internet. The IETF is made up of eight groupings that oversee the operation of the regulatory body. The policy framework group is the most powerful of the eight groups within IETF. It oversees the universal operation of IETF counting all the progressions and procedures. The policy framework sets guidelines on the development of new standards and protocols fro the entire internet operations. Additionally, the group oversees the publication of RFCs (request for comment) to establish principles of operation within the internet (Stallings, 2011). The policy framework group of the IETF ensures the expansion of communication through the development of the working notes of internet research. Generally, the group draws the map for the rest of the groups within IETF for the common goal of engineering protocol and development in the internet.
The IEEE 802 standards are like the traffic regulations of the internet. Transferring data from one terminal to another must be controlled to ensure safety and effective intercommunication between computers and networks. The IEEE 802 standards provide this framework to ensure that no fraudulent activities happen while transferring and sharing data across networks. Additionally, the standardization body allows large volumes of data to be transferred from one terminal to another as well as transfer of data from different terminals at the same time. Without these regulating standards, many data would be lost and there would be a lot of confusion within the internet (Koh & Maguire, 2009). The standards set by IEEE 802 ensure that the right information is sent to the right terminal for easy and effective processing. Additionally, the standards enable organizations to operate at low costs hence improving the economic status of the firm.
IEEE, ISO, and ANSI are the main regulating bodies that are involved in the management of the networks. The IEEE handles local area network and the city networks. The other corporations like ISO in the management of the internet and the network incorporate most of the values set by IEEE. The purpose of the ANSI is to accredit other organizations that set the standards although it is considered the most effective network standardizing body in America by many people. ISO, on the other hand, is the greatest standardization body in the world that helps manage all industries. In network management, ISO uses some of the standards set by IEEE for effective control and management of LAN. All these firms have their position in the management and control of networks but ISO is the most important of all because it provides guidelines and principles for all areas of the network. IEEE is quite effective but it only deals with a segment of the network leaving other network segments un-attended (Maier, 2007). The effectiveness of ISO is brought about by the fact that it incorporates all the ideal standards used by other bodies to achieve effective management of the networks.
Federal regulation of the internet and the communication network is necessary to ensure the greater good of the nation. Issues of cybercrimes and cyber bullying cannot be managed efficiently by non-regulatory bodies, which have no law backing them. Federal regulatory bodies such as NIST are a necessary course of action for the common good of the nation. Additionally, the bodies ensure that fraudulent cases over the internet that are propagated by insatiable business people are avoided and businesses get their dues at the end of the day (Stallings, 2011). Federal regulation bodies provide frameworks that help in the protection of ones intellectual property in the process of promoting the innovativeness of the business world.
