Tourangeau and Smith structured their research questions to fit the context, which was evaluation of health issues. In this respect, research participants did not suspect the study. Accordingly, they answered sensitive questions without their knowledge or with little knowledge because they thought that the study was intended to benefit them. In particular, Tourangeau and Smith divided their research questions into five parts.

The first part focused its attention on demographic questions. The second part focused its attention on health conditions. The third part focused its attention on marriage, sex partners, cohabitation and pregnancy among other issues. The fourth part focused its attention on AIDS risk while the fifth part focused its attention on illicit drug use. On the other hand, some research participants may have told the truth hoping that they would benefit from the study.
