Evidence based knowledge is the process that considers the conscientious, explicit and the use of the current best known knowledge in making decisions concerning the care of individuals. It emanates from becoming motivated to apply EBK and converting the information into answerable questions. It then follows the research to find evidence to find answers, appraising the evidence for validity and then applying the evidence into practice as well as teaching others to follow the proved evidence.
Practice based knowledge on the other hand is the knowledge that has been obtained out of reading what others have done and proved. In this case, practice based knowledge emanates from the actual encounter with the issue.One of the similarities that can be attributed to the two sets of knowledge is that they all sought to instill knowledge on a given subject. At the same time, prior knowledge has to be used to derive or to verify the correctness of the findings.
Differences between the two approaches includes the fact that practice based knowledge applies the traditional source of knowledge that emanates from building experience, trial and errors among other methods. EBP is more modern and use the scientific methods to produce results. The EBP is usually informed, current and updated and uses professional knowledge unlike the practice based evidence where experience out of professional practice is used to give results.
