Homework Answer on Message of the Prophets

  1. What are some practical applications for today that can be drawn from Daniel 1 and 2?

God keeps His Word

As regards the warning God gave to prophet Jeremiah about the consequences of Israel’s disobedience, God kept His Word and sent them to captivity. He also does not bring judgment before first warning the people through prophets. Although He is patient and considers the decisions, He is sure to accomplish what is promised (whether it is popularly accepted by the people or not exciting). In the first Chapter of the book of Daniel, the Jews were under direct punishment from God in accordance with their sin and disobedience by not heeding the prophet’s warnings (Walton 21).

God appreciates and blesses obedience

The young teenage boys who maintained their firm resolutions to obey and serve God gained favor from Him. Rather than defile themselves with rich food during their training, they opted for bitter vegetables. God, in turn, sustained their health above the expectations of the trainers and the King.

God still hates idol worship

The exemplary story of the young men reveals the fact that God expects believers to worship Him alone regardless of the circumstances they encounter. He also uses tests to find the loyal and faithful out of a majority of worshippers. Moreover, God always retains people who will stand confidently for Him and oppose infiltration and diversion from true worship according to His Word (Daniel 33).
