The information processing model of the memory was initially developed by comparing the human brain to that of a computer. Some cognitive scientists believe that the human brain is just a very complex computer (stimulus-response machine).I agree with the notion that a human being’s brain is like a computer, but only complex in comparison. Computers process information (input) to give out results.
The brain also uses information that it is given in it, prior knowledge (experience), logic intelligence, and emotions where necessary to give a result (outcome). Human beings are superior to computers because they have emotional intelligence, though its level is different for different individuals. There are various principles in relation to memory and cognitive ability. The brain is just like a computer in terms of capacity (Hugdahl & Westerhausen, 2010).
There are limitation to the volume and complexity of information that can be processed, and the tasks that can be performed at a time. For example, a normal first grade student cannot be able to handle a twelfth grade mathematics problem. Just like a computer, a human brain also requires a systematic flow of how information is attained, processed, stored, accessed, and retrieved (Sears & Jacko, 2007).
