Eating Right
Dr Shah connotes the term “healthcare” as the responsibility of individual persons and those people that give guidance or direction towards eating right, taking charge and controlling life(Dr Shah 82). Health care involves prevention of maladies through the taking of appropriate vitamins, minerals and herbs to augment the longevity of life. According to Shah, exercise one of the pillars of engaging in a healthy lifestyle is essential, however, taking the right food and nutrition has proved more vital(Dr Shah 82).It cannot be denied that a proper balance needs to be identified among the four pillars which according to circumstance maybe become a challenge to sustain. Therefore, according to a BBC publication, the human body requires a balanced and healthy nutrition to ensure repairing of body tissues, reproduction, and prevention of ailments, growth and development complemented by the other pillars of healthy living such as exercising(BBC). It can be quoted that obesity has become a global concern due to the growing unhealthy eating habits world over as a consequence oflack of proper nutritional schedules among entities.
Eating right was the pillar selected. Through research, it was identified to be most essential in the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle. Personally, the pillar was chosen as it underlies a proper mechanism in reduction of excessive subcutaneous fat that fits the chosen exercise regime to reduce belly fat. Reduction of carbs is deemed essential in reduction of fats and weight loss. Excessive fat in the body not only leaves one vulnerable to a myriad of preventable diseases but also unattractive. Therefore, personally, discounting carbohydrate intake for more proteins and fibre was an area objectified for change with the incentive to reduce weight and the result of a more toned body, and muscles. Although motivated by a superficial incentive, reduction of excess carbs (bread, potatoes and white rice), sugar intakes and salts is beneficial to the general “healthcare.”
A week-long schedule of engaging in low carbohydrate intake was a challenging experience. The day-by-day experiences are highlighted on the track chart below:-
Day | Food Taken | Experience |
Day 1 | Lean meat, spinach and eggs | Preparation of the meal was easy. The lean meat was a bit expensive from the butcheries. Only the York part of the eggs was consumed, high in protein was consumed, however, tasted a bit dry and hard to swallow. |
Day 2 | Beans, Fish, banana and Cabbage | The beans took long to prepare. On Day 2 started experiencing bloating complications. However, quelled by the intake of warm water and stretching exercises. |
Day 3 | Oats, nuts and boiled chicken meat | The meal was good. However, the oats were a hard swallow and had to add a bit of honey to help with the taste buds. On day 3, fatigue started to set in. |
Day 4 | Eggs, beans and meat | A repeat of Day 2 where bloating was experienced. The conclusion was beans in the diet since it was the only repeat from day 2. |
Day 5 | Mango and banana smoothie with sugarless yoghurt, fish and eggs | On day 5, the feeling of fatigue alleviated with the smoothie a resolve to correct the problem. However, the problem persisted. |
Day 6 | Beans and meat……and a burger later in the day | On Day six, experienced dizziness when performing the daily exercise routine. Day 6 became a cheat day. |
Day 7 | Eggs, uncooked Cucumber and Fish | The protein regime started becoming monotonous. However, still motivated to continue with it. |
The above track sheet represents a protein plan purposed to reduce the levels of fats in the body whilst alleviating the level of muscle percentage. The week-long behavioral change showed that one cannot perform a 100 percent in the normal day-to-day activities especially where there exists strenuous activities without some form of energy supplement through intake of carbohydrates. The foods- carbs- contain a calorific content responsible for energy production in the body. Lack of the nutrients results to low energy depicted through fatigue and dizziness during work outs. A cheat day in such a nutritional regime where one engages in diets that supplement the much needed energy in the body is essential. It is also significant in quelling the psychological torment from monotonous and strict protein routine.
The behavioral change was not easy to actualize as it needs a lot of discipline. It is because the starchy foods are cheap and readily available with most folks engaging in them and, therefore, one could easily succumb to breaking the nutritional plan. It was deemed fit to continue with the behavior since after a measuring of weight at the end of the week, 1.5 kilograms had been lost.A surprise identified during the week-long challenge is the importance of carbohydrates in the body(Frimmel 3) and the high discipline required in maintaining such a healthy lifestyle. Though it was decided to continue with the behavior change, a cheat day proved critical and hence, a break from the rigorous protein intake. Another reason accredited to continuance is the fact that a more healthy lifestyle and toned body augments self-esteem and this extends to stress reduction(Stress management Society and Body chef).
Exercise is one of the pillars constantly sustained in daily life. Sleeping hours has been a hard pillar to continually engage because of the demand hours in the work-life –school balance. Managing stress has also been a difficult endeavor. However, a behavioral change that insinuates taking challenges as they come is a small deserved change objectified to reduce the number of stressors in a purpose to achieve healthy living.
