Nurses, having the responsibilities of dealing with the delicate lives of people, they should be enriched with high skills, integrity, competency and keeping with the changing technological environment among others. In 2010, after various considerations and research, the Institute of Medical presented a report; “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” which called for, advancement of nurse education, cultivation of more nurse leaders, diversification of nursing profession and promotion of inter-professional education and collaboration.
Impact of the IOM Report on Nursing Education
According to the report, healthcare organizations, public and private funders, nursing associations and nursing education programs were to expand opportunities and chances for nurses to manage and lead collaborative efforts with other members of Healthcare for carrying out research and improving health systems and practicing environment (“Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health | RWJF Initiative on the Future of Nursing,” n.d.)
Among its impacts, the IOM resulted in the launching of a new education program in Minnesota (MANE) meant to increase the nurse practitioners’ attainment of a baccalaureate degree as one way to improve competency in the profession.
