Normal Fluid and Balance
Water is considered as the main body fluid. Water is a function of age, mass, and fat. There are two key fluid partitions of the body, that is, the intracellular and the extracellular fluid. Intracellular fluid makes up slightly less than 2/3 of total water by volume, while the remaining circulates as extracellular fluid. Extracellular fluid is composed of 2 sub-petitions, which comprise the blood plasma and the interstitial fluid. Fluid intake in the human body is mainly regulated through what is referred to as Thirst center-hypothalamus. Usually, the psychosomatic features dry up the pharyngeal mucus membrane, which as a result develops the feeling of thirst (Halperin, Goldstein &Kamel, 2010).
These are mainly the ionized molecules that exist throughout the blood, tissues, and the body cells. The molecules are normally either positive or negative. In addition, the electrolytes are generally responsible for conducting an electric current and assisting in balancing the pH along with the acid and base levels in the human body. They are also responsible for facilitating the movement of fluids between the cells through a process referred to as osmosis.
Electrolyte imbalance is a disparity of the ionized salts. These ionized salts include bicarbonate, calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphate, potassium, and sodium in the blood. Non electrolytes are composed of the organic molecules (Halperin, Goldstein & Kamel, 2010). The non electrolytes normally do not dissociate in water, and they do not contain electrical charge. Electrolytes normally dissociate in water to form ions, which include inorganic salts, acids, bases and some proteins (Hale & Hovey, 2014).
