Homework Answer on McDonald’s Product
Product design is used in decision making in several ways. These are cost decisions and quality considerations. MacDonald products have quantifiable and non-quantifiable characteristics thus these should be incorporated in product design. In designing a product, a tradeoff between quality and cost should be enhanced in a way that it will be afforded by the customers. In determining the product design several factors are required in making the decision (Barabba, 2011).
These include the required and available resources as well as the target consumers. Decisions must be evaluated to ensure that they align to the company objectives. Also, they must be communicated to the whole organization to enhance their acceptability.MacDonald products are fast moving goods with short life cycles. Their products have life cycles of less than two years. Before a product enters the maturity stages, it is obsolete and gets out of fashion.
It becomes difficult for the product to pass all the stages of normal product development (Stark, 2011). Each product has tangible characteristics to each individual customer and this becomes a challenge in satisfying every customer. MacDonald’s products life stages relates to the consumer spending patterns. Therefore, the innovative products exhibit a more defined life cycle than other products.MacDonald’s issues of product development emanate from managing a wide range of products.
