Employability- In Business Management
Landing a job in an otherwise competitive market is becoming hard for most job seekers. People have embraced advanced schooling thus making most job seekers qualified in different fields. As a result, employers have gone beyond majoring on the academic qualifications and look for other traits that define a potential employee. Job seekers should employ other strategies that increase their employability besides having the academic credentials.
Job seekers cast their nets wide by sending copies of their resumes to different companies. While it may sound like a brilliant idea, it does not always work to the advantage of the individual looking for employment. An ideal strategy to employ is focusing on one’s qualifications and matching them with the suitable job positions. Further, the job seeker should pay attention to the specific organizations that they would wish to join. Such a narrowed job seeking strategy gives the candidate a better chance of receiving an invite for interview. It is advisable to decide the most suitable role a job seeker would like to take up before even setting out to send job applications. Once the individual has decided on the companies that they would wish to work with, they should gear their efforts towards getting noticed by these firms. One way in which a job seeker can get the attention of their dream company is by maintaining a professional personality both online and in person (Markgren, 2011).
Most job seekers are quick to point out a bad image of their previous employer when asked why they left a former employment. They do so as a way of justifying their decision to quit hoping that the hiring manager will see sense in their reasoning. However, the right strategy is refraining from speaking anything negative about a previous employer. Interviewers do not wish to include a candidate who has a negative attitude in their workforce. They care about the reputation of their organization, and they fear that once the individual is moving out of the business, they will also talk ill of the company.
In conclusion, job seekers should employ more advanced strategies in searching for employment such as selecting their dream companies and working towards getting their attention after presenting their resumes. Moreover, job seekers should shun badmouthing their previous employer since hiring managers see such an individual as one who will also ruin the public image of the organization once the leave the firm.
