Currently, education has become one of the most important development aspects across all genders in Saudi Arabia. The Nation now boasts 25 public school and 27 universities, an improvement only apparent in light of its history, when only a dismal 12 schools were in existence at the Nation’s birth in 1932. This positive growth from an era when only males from affluent families enjoyed education is but a stepping stone to a more exquisite future that promises the conception and institution of more than 30,000 schools.
Among the strengths of the Saudi Arabian education system is the availability of scholarships for students. Ranked at first position and fourth position by UNESCO for the number of students studying abroad and the number of student movement around the globe respectively, Saudi Arabian education system enjoys the benefits of the King Abdullah scholarship programs. Currently, scholarships are available to students regardless of gender with the Mahrram’s expenses catered for by the scholarship in case the recipient is female.
Also, the introduction of sponsorship to student’s in Private Universities by the Ministry of Education is set to improve the availability of higher education to all (Alamri, 89). In addition to these strengths, another is the availability of primary or elementary education for the majority of the Nation’s youth. According to Khashoggi, approximately ninety-five percent of the Country’s boys and girls are enrolled in schools and receiving this valuable life tool. However, the system is not flawless and has some weaknesses (Khashoggi).
