The contemporary corporate competition continues to intensify with companies aiming to retain and attract talented employees to offer sustainable competitive edge over other organizations. However, there is a shift in the applicant pool, where most of the anticipated employees are likely to be in the ages between twenty and thirty years (Heneman&Milanowski, (2011). The new set of employees possesses different aspirations in comparison to earlier generations, that is, the Generation X and Baby Boomers Generation.
The new pool of employees represents the Y Generation, which comes with many challenges that organizational managers must address in the dimension of training and motivation. In doing so, the managers are to tap the strengths of the said employees, therefore, significantly benefiting the organization.Generation Y comprises of the most educated employees of the three generations with possession of undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees.
Similarly, the generation experiences enhanced knowledge in technology, ownership of communal sense, and they are passionately optimistic. Additionally, generation Y pursues jobs that are interesting and the ones that offer a good balance in terms of work and life (Lancaster, 2015). The Generation Y employees tend to seek rewards and purpose from the nature of jobs that they engage in with high levels of ambition to achieve.
