Homework Answer on a Case Study of McDonald’s
McDonald’s is a successful brand known globally. The company has achieved its success by utilizing strategized approaches especially the decentralized approach which manages its global workforce. However, success is not always a guarantee in the business. McDonald’s has been managed by several CEOs, a situation that can be delicate for a business especially when it coincides with a major vision change or economic crisis. This was one of the reasons that drove McDonald’s into coming up with advanced approaches to talent management and development to ensure the business keeps up with market trends and sustains its success.
Talent Management Program
After many years of success, changes in management affected the company’s performance, and this led to an establishment of talent management. Some of the evidence of its failure in the performance includes the loss made in the fourth quarter of 2002. Even with the fact that all employees in the senior position were given high ratings of their performance, the company faced difficulties in selecting an individual to fill a key leadership position because not everyone could agree on their capability.
These factors recognized the need to upgrade the company’s talent management system. McDonald’s established a team that would operate the talent management program. The team focused on five initiatives which enhanced talent management system. These initiatives were the enhancement of performance development system, the planning process of succession and global talent development, the designing and implementation of McDonald’s program (LAMP), the establishing McDonald’s leadership institute, and the development of The Global Leadership development Program (Goldsmith and Carter, 2009).
