Tidy plans, ugly realities: The American civil war through 1862
The American civil war took a period of four years before it ended. The American civil war comprised of South America, North America and the west United States Atlantic Ocean. Finally the outcome of the war is that the conflicting groups agreed to come together and unite. One of the outcome of the war is that slavery was abolished, the integrity of the territories which were in war was preserved and the confederate states were destroyed and dissolved, (Murray 2010).
The American civil war history
The American civil war started in 1960 and it was led by Abraham Lincoln.Lincoln supported the bun of slavery in the United States while the western and the northern America were not for that. This happened during that time, the outgoing president rejected Lincoln to succeed him as he said that it was illegal. Hostilities in the American civil war began at around 18th April 1861 when the confederate force fired upon fort Sumter. Efforts were made to interviene on this move and alongside Lincoln issued a liberation proclamation. The main event that occurred in during the American civil war in 1863 was the union siege of Vicksburg split the confederation into two.The war ended in 1965 during lee’s escape attempt where he surrendered to the Appomattox court, (Dean 2014).
According to Murray, the major armies during the American civil war were the union army and the confederate army, (2010).The union army fought and defeated the confederate army during the war.The union army was quite big with at least 2.5 million men serving and loyal to the army. The armies were the main participant during the war who made efforts to defeat their opposing sides.
According to Woodworth, the infantry is a section of soldiers during the American civil war who were considered as the foot soldiers, (2006). They fought primarily with small arms. The infantry majorly fought in the battle fields across the united states. The infantry did not take a long time because as the war progressed, the tricks that were used in the battlefield changed and a new method of fighting was established.
Billy yank and JohnnyReb
Billy Yank and Johnny Reb is a novel which was published by Alexander Hunter who served as a solider in the confederate army. The novel incorporates major events of the American civil war.The main contents in the novel were drawn from Hunter’s diaries outlining the events during the war.The novel is divided into two major parts. The first part is majorly concerned with the infantry and the second part talks about hunters services in Calvary during the American civil war, (Woodworth 2006).
Was it a woman’s war?
Even though the war as majorly dominated by men, women too played a major role during the war. The roles they played included, being nurses, spies and also abolitionists. Most women participated in the war through supplying the troops with money, food clothing’s and even medical supplies. Some women also fought as soldiers, (Murray 2010).
Sobering campaign of 1861
The main participant who took place in the sobering campaign was George McClellan. He was an army officer and a rail road president whose major role during the war was being a major general. The sobering campaigns are majorly considered as the first battle of Bull Run which made the initiation of the American civil war in 1861, (Woodworth 2006).
On to Richmond
Richmond virginia served as the capital of the confederate states during the period of the American civil war.Richmond states served as the cource of ammaments, weapons and man power during the civil war.It was around 160 miles from the current capital city of the united states, washington DC.It was mainly considered because of its symbolic and strategic importance. It was a center of hospitals and military prisons during the war, (Murray 2010)
Celebrations and recriminations
Cellebrations were done by both the united states armies and the confederations.Even thorugh some general cellebrations such as christmas were not made public, fact is that arrangements were made to cellebrate these events esspecialy during christmas.Alot of acivities were done during the celebrations like visiting the injured solders and making plans or strategies to be fullfilled during the war, (Dean 2014).
The summer lull
According to Dean, few activities were being conducted during the summer, (2014).Only a tiny fractions of the soldiers plannedactivities were conducted to combat the enemies.Majority of the soldiers revolved around the camp doing their daily activities of life. The soldiers engaged in the war one day out of thirty due to the adverse weather conditions.
The main strategy that was used by the northerners, was to try and prevent the people from the south from getting the goods that they needed during the war.Ports along Atlantic and Mexico gulf were shut down to prevent the shipment of cotton from the south to Europe. The northerners strived to seize Richmond and the Mississippi was also confiscated, (Woodworth 2006).
There are some people in the American civil war who clearly showed mismatched adversaries.Herndon Maury is one of the people who surrendered during the war.Thompson Brigade, also surrendered during the war.The war also ended when lee surrender in 1986, (Murray 2010).
The people from the south made strategies to prepare and wait for the people from the north to attack. The southerners hoped to weaken the northern army. They also hoped to maintain a strong and stable economy through the sale of their cotton to Europe. The southerners hoped that they would get strong arms to maintain domnance during the war, (Dean 2010).
In conclusion, the American civil war clearly shows a series of ugly realities and tidy plans.Even as the war came to an end, some people still were not satisfied with the final agreements in the war. There are people who played a major role in the American war both on the union’s side and also on the confederate’s side. The end of the American civil war which took place for four years clearly shows the capability of ending a war no matter the terms and circumstances, (Murray 2010).
