Events that led to Civil War and the Outcome

The Civil War of 1861 is considered the central event in American History that led to the end of slavery and creation of a stronger union, and contrary to the objectives of the 1776 Revolution, the Civil War determined the kind of nation America would become. On the views political governance of social integration, the Civil War had its focus on two fundamental issues (Glatthaar & Gallagher, 2001, p. 21).

The first issue was whether U.S.A would remain a dissolvable confederation with sovereign state while the second issue was whether to refer to U.S.A as an indivisible nation with one sovereign national government (Glatthaar & Gallagher, 2001, p. 21). The Civil War was also connected to issues of equal right to liberty and that U.S.A would make a declaration as the largest slaveholding nation in the world.

The Civil War was triggered by the uncompromising differences shown by the free and slave states over the new government policy to end slavery and slave trade within the American territories that had not yet become full states (Glatthaar & Gallagher, 2001, p. 23). Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican President of U.S.A had promised prior to his victory to keep American territories free of slavery. While seven states in the South seceded to form a new Confederate States of America, the Lincoln administration and people from the North had to reject the legitimacy of the secession (Glatthaar & Gallagher, 2001, p. 24).
