Dr. Donald Kearns was appointed the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rady Children’s Hospital in July 2014. Kearns has already shown exemplary skills in this capacity as he has been in an acting role since November 2013. As an interimpresident, he hasbeen able to bring changes to the medical facility and channel it towards giving the best health care possible for the local population. Dr. Kean’s education, training, experience, and leadership vision makes him the ideal CEO to lead Rady Children’s Hospital towards prosperity.
Dr. Kearns attended medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center located in New Orleans. He attained his medical degree in this institution and was accredited to practice medicine in 1981. He continued with his studies and went to further classes at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He pursued a residency in general surgery and was accredited to practice surgery in 1983. He pushed himself further to complete a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, which he was able to attain by 1986.
In addition, he completed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology in England, at a hospital for sick children in the Great Ormond Street, London within one year that is from 1986 to 1987 (UC San Diego School of Medicine, 2015).Dr. Kearns has been licensed to practice medicine by CA State Medical License and certified by American Board of Otolaryngology to practice Otolaryngology. The education he went through exposed him and enabled him to learn a lot from different environments.
