Background and Causes of Industrial Pollution
Industries play a fundamental role in enhancing economic development within the location of their establishment. With the emergence of Industrial Revolution, human beings have managed to advance ad enhance their lives further in the twenty-first century. The Industrial Revolution, which started in Great Britain in the eighteenth century before spreading to other European countries as well as the US and Japan, encouraged high combustion of fossil fuels around urban areas, leading to high levels of air pollution (Lomborg, 2013). The speedy industrial expansion that was experienced in the late twentieth century and the increase in population in urban centers led to rise in industrial emissions.
Industrial pollutants are waste products that originate from industries during the production process. Industrial pollutants are the most toxic forms of waste because they are generated in large quantities, thus, becoming a burden to the environment in terms of disposal. Wastes are directed connected to human advancement, both technologically and communally. Wastes are usually produced during the extraction of raw materials when the process of developing finished products takes place (Fulekar, 2010). Dumping of industrial waste onto land contaminates the environment leading to industrial pollution.
