How should we balance the need for enhanced agricultural productivity and the need for environmental protection in regulating and taxing products such as fertilizers?

Agricultural productivity and environmental protection can be enhanced by the keeping a balance between the two this can be done by the use of the Green Growth Policy. The farmers are encouraged to use farm inputs such as the animal manure that is more environmental friendly to increase their farm productivity. Taxing of fertilizers is crucial as it discourages farmers from buying thus use manure that is cheaper and reduces production cost in farms. The government should come up with improved production methods that are eco-friendly alternatively.

What impacts do dams have on the biosphere, and under what circumstances do you think we should not allow dams to be built?

Construction of dams leads to reduction of the river levels. Dams may be constructed for power thus water is diverted from rivers hence reducing water levels, this might interfere with the rivers’ ecosystems. Dams slow the speed of rivers thus species like salmon that require this speed to migrate are slowed down. Dams alter water temperatures, chemical compositions and levels of dissolved oxygen, this may lead to death of the plants and the animal species in the rivers and favors the growth of predators that feed on fish and plants.
