Sample Essay on Challenges Faced By World Food Programme

The World Food Programme [WFP] is one of the effective branches of the United Nations projects. It is food assistance branch and the world’s largest humanitarian organization that has aided greatly in addressing hunger and encouraging food security on the global platform. On average the WFP has made it easy to provide food to millions of suffering people per year and 58 million is consist of children. The World Food Programme has been able to help people who are incapable to produce food for themselves and even for their families.
The World Food Programme was established in 1961, after Food and Agricultural Organization [FAO] conference in 1960 after the founding of the multilateral food aid programmer was proposed. Above all, the WFP aims and strives to get rid of hunger and malnutrition in the globe, but it has also been faced by a number of challenges here and there. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to eliminate the need for food aid itself. Evidently, there are a number of objectives that the World Food Programme hopes to achieve and they include;
Saves lives and protects livelihoods in case of emergencies.
Reduce risk and enable people, communities and nations to meet their own food and nutrition needs
Support food security and nutrition and rebuild livelihood in most fragile serring and following emergencies.
Reduce under nutrition and break the inter generational cycle of hunger.
There is more from the WFP than just guaranteeing food security and nutrition to the global fraternity. The World Food Programme is focused to also fight micro-nutrient deficiencies, improve maternal health, reduce child mortality and combat fatal diseases such as HIV/AIDS. This organization has made it easy to promote environmental and economic stability and matchless agricultural production globally than any other organization.
Despite all the WFP has been able to accomplish, there are challenges that have also made it hard to meet its goals and objectives in some parts of the world. These challenges include;
1. Political instability- The number of countries in the world facing political troubles has been increasing on daily basis. This has made it hard for the UN to be able to offer food and other necessities as it ease. Most of the officials in the government have blocked the WFP initiative and this has led to suffering of many people.
2. Corruption- In most of the developing nations, corruption is one of the common vices hindering many development projects. Many official demand certain amount of money for most of the food relief aid to succeed while other make income from selling relief foods.
3. Insecurity- There is immense challenge for the WFP due to insecurity in many parts of the world. There has been increased looting and commandeering of the trucks belonging to the WFP and this has led to loss of more than 100,000 metric tons of food in most of these warring and insecure countries.
4. Lack of funds- The World Food Organization finds it hard to get enough funds to cater for its food programme in many parts of the world in need of food. Lack of enough funds has forced the WFO to cut corners in some parts of the world.
The WFP has been working closely with many partners to make easy to feed suffering people in the world. There are many offices worldwide where a country or an individual can easily seek services from the WFO. The World Food Programme has not only helped rebuild communities and make easy to access food, but also trained farmers how to grow and store their food products.
