Martin Luther King Jr said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and critically. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education”. However, this is a dream and a nightmare to some students who work hard to succeed academically, but due to the challenges they experience, they hardly reach their schooling prime. Poor time management and unemployed single parents are some of the challenges a student may go through in pursuit of quality education.
The high school stage is a defining moment for a student who would wish to make it in life since they find it hard managing their time both in school and at home. Time management is a skill that every student must possess to form a structure that works to their advantage. Therefore, a timely student would get enough sleeping and study time, and this will result in inattentiveness in class for better grades.
My education took a rough path after dad and mum separated a year ago, mum was forced to fend for my three siblings of 9, 14, 17, and me. My mother is jobless having gone through depression after the divorce. However, the government came to our rescue, and we can afford to eat after the successful enrolment to section 8 and food stamps programs. I’m passionate about one day being a manager, and I believe Texas will offer me the best opportunity to study business management, own a business company and employ students like me who cannot survive in college financially.
Educational challenges should not break down a student with societal goals in mind. They should be the stepping stone to work further hard and produce a surprise to those who do not believe that challenges are bridges to life ahead. Students should, therefore, not let their family backgrounds and personal weariness put them to the test of being better people to the world.
