Correctional Philosophies
The rate of crime increases with increase in the general population in a given area. This means that due to rise in population in the world in the recent years, the correctional facilities should be improved to help the criminals to undergo well organized system that can help them reform in the future. When the correctional systems are improved, the crime rate reduces in the society. There are several philosophers who have come up with philosophies to improve these correctional systems in the society today (Reichel, Philip, 35). The 21st centaury has seen the most era of philosophical applications in the correction or punishment in the criminal law.
Some of these philosophies include the rehabilitation philosophy, Incapacitation Deterrence restorative Justice and retribution philosophies ((Kattakayam, John, 211). Theses philosophies have different thoughts and ideas regarding the ways criminals should be handled during a correctional procedure. Most of the philosophers argue that criminals should be incapacitated. In this school of thought, the empirical idea is that they bring havoc in the society and therefore are unwanted (Reichel, Philip, 23). The philosophy stipulates that criminals cannot be changed using different ideas apart from incapacitation. I disagree with this line of thought because every human being is bound to change depending on the environmental situations that a person is undertaken in during his or her life.
George Beto brings more things about correctional facilities and methods in the 21stcentuary. He says that all his life has never seen a time where the correctional justice has been given the priority as today. He says that money received from other sectors is too much and can be channeled to correctional justice to assist the criminal. He proposes the use of education, health facilities and labor specialization to help in the correction of human behavior. He says that there has been evolutionary system in the correctional methods that is the four Rs, starting with revenge to rehabilitation. He proposes the use of labor department as a vocational place where the criminals can receive knowledge about work.
