Homework Answer on How Wal-Mart has had to modify its operations in China

Wal-Mart is the world’s largest retailer that was founded by Sam Walton in 1962, succeeded in U.S. by highly efficient supply chains and low price strategy. However, Wal-Mart had been struggling in the Chinese market and had to re-formulate its strategies and operations to compete in the new environment. The domestic supermarkets in China seem to have no big gap with the foreign supermarket chains. Despite this fact, operations efficiency and creation of revenue has a very big disparity.

This is caused by the low operating efficiencies, the high costs, very few collaborations, and lack of full information sharing. In china, Walmart has given its stores a local flavor, the company strategy has been to move away from its headquarters’ driven heritage. As opposed to the U.S Walmart bosses, the Chinese Walmart bosses have more control of the store and the inventory sources. Walmart China has discovered that to survive in China the logistics solutions are imperative if the benefits of the supply chain are to be felt.
