Homework Answer on Transportation Terminal
Assembly and distributions points are essential in any transport mode for both passenger and freight. Terminals play a significant role as links in transportation chains. In an airport, setting, a terminal is a building that is used by passengers when transferring between ground transportation and the facilities that assist them when boarding and disembarking from aircraft. The terminals are used when passengers are buying their tickets, and transferring luggage. (Adikariwattage, de Barros, Wirasinghe, & Ruwanpura, 2012).
Pier Terminal
A pier terminal is designed in that it uses narrow buildings that are also small in size where aircraft are parked on both sides with ease. The terminal has an end that is used to connect to the area where passengers pay for their tickets and where arriving ones can collect the baggage that has been carried in the hold of the aircraft. Pier has a simple design, and it offers high capacity for the aircraft however, causes the distance between the gate and the check-in counter to be extremely long.
Pier design has a compact central terminal but offers expansion challenges since expanding it would disrupt the aircraft operations (Solak, Clarke, & Johnson, 2009).Mobile Lounge Terminal :This terminal applies remote aircraft parking concept where passengers are ferried to and from the building to the parked airplane and is as well used when waiting for passengers at a gate positions as holding rooms.
