Homework Answer on Pilot-Static System Instruments
1.Explain the functioning of Pitot-Static system instruments and the associated system errors.
Pitot-static system involves instruments sensitive to pressure that are mostly used in the aviation industry .The instruments are used in the operation of airspeed, altimeter, Mach number and trend of the altitude. The main parts of the system include the Pitot – static tube, pitot-static tools, and static port. It works together with other instruments like the data recorders, air computers, cabin pressure controllers and speed switches to pressures that affect the overall flight processes
The instrument allows airplanes to determine the speed, climbing rate, the altitude of the aircraft and the mach number. Air data computer, together with the pitot-static instrument allows the pilots to compare information of the pitot-static pressure, pitot pressure and the static pressure. This information is then used to make accurate decisions on aircraft operation.
Pitot-static system, just any other system, may experience errors in the operation process. The errors may be from system malfunctions or from other sources. One of the errors that can happen is the blockage of Pitot tube. This affects the indicators of airspeed. The indicators will give wrong information like a rise in airspeed while in real sence, the speed not increasing. This may be caused by presence of ice, liquids or any object in the tubes. Pitot tube must be checked before any flight.
