1- Of all the management skills that were discussed in class, what was your weakest skill or the one that you struggled with the most?  How did the class work help with improving or strengthening this skill?  Or, was this weakness not addressed in class and is there anything that can be done to help address this skill?  Please discuss in detail.  [30-points]

My weakest management skills were problem solving. The class discussions helped me to understand the concept and the value of problem solving. The class work also enabled me to understand the scientific methods applicable in problem solving situations. By the end of the class, I was able to establish real problems in any situation that requires problem solving skills.

2- Describe your strongest management or leadership skill.  How did the lectures or work in this class give you a different perspective of this skill or help enhance the skill?  If your skill was not addressed in class, is there anything that could have been done to help address this skill?  Please describe in detail [30-points]

Before joining the class, I had already developed strong delegation skills. The class work helped me advance this skill by developing myself and also improving on my people skills. The SMART acronym of delegation skills was another achievement I got from the class work. The few instances of frustrations that resulted from poor delegation were tackled fully by the class work.

3- Who has had the most impact or influence in developing your leadership/management skills?  Additionally, do you have a mentor or mentors that you look up to when it comes to developing your leadership/management skills?  Who are these individuals and describe how they have helped you develop these skills.  [30-points]

My lecturer for the management class has been my mentor in the recent years. He believes in my capabilities and has spent most of his time grooming me to be the best manager aviation industry has ever known. I like his direct way of approaching things in life and I believe this is a trait that I should emulate if I want to succeed. Globally, I have strong admirations for the management style of FedEx CEO Fredrick Smith. I believe in his philosophies of building strong relationships and being in multiple places in a single day as a means of success. Mr. Smith has one of the best strategies of managing distant facilities. When I become a manager someday, I would wish to connect my company and communities, the same way Smith does with his company.

4- Overall, what are the most important takeaways or lessons you learned from this class?  Describe in detail what you learned and how you plan to implement them in your future career [30-points]

The most important lesson from the management class would manage diversity. The world has become a global village and every office would have people from diverse backgrounds. This topic was of much influence and I have learned a lot from it. I am now equipped with the best strategies a manager could use to handle diversity among the employees of a company. I understood that should I find myself in a company with diverse employees, some of the strategies to use would be recognition, fairness, employee assessments, and encouragement of interactions among employees.

5- Reflecting on all the guest speakers and the leadership or expert videos reviewed in class, which speaker(s) and/or video(s) were the most impactful, or changed your mind on a subject or added to your skills or knowledge?  Please provide details on how they impacted you.  [30-points]

The video “first why and then trust” by Simon Sinek talked about how to inspire action from my employees or team members. From the video, I came to realize that if I want my employees to be more successful at what they do, a manager must believe in their ability to complete the task successfully. The manager must also remind themselves and their employees why they joined the organization. The manager could remind the employees of their passion when they joined the company. The managers should remember why the organization was established and its goals. The speaker stated that when people are aware of why they exist in a place, it promotes their collective bargain and get empowered.

6- Reflect on the labor relations activities in this class.  Describe in detail what lessons you learned from these activities and how do you plan to apply them in your future career.  [30-points]

The labor relations activities in class were active-learning oriented. The lecturer ensured that students were engaged throughout the lessons. The students were given opportunities to contribute towards their own learning hence achieving more effecting learning outcomes. These activities at some points included well designed aviation simulations to expose students to the real-world scenarios. When students were placed in fictitious airline companies with specific roles, they an aged to understand the real world operates. The class simulations enabled students to gain the confidence necessary for anyone who wishes to be successful in the aviation industry.
