HOW MUSLIM AMERICANS CAN HELP IN THE COUNTER JIHADIST PROPAGANDA

Muslim extremists and Jihadists have always used the pretext of a “Crusade against Islam” to get support from Muslims across the world for their actions. Even Muslim leaders who have worked or interacted with the Western sphere of influence are labeled as apostates. Sometimes jihad propagandists and extremists target them. An enormous number of Islamist terrorism has targeted other Muslims over recent years. These extremists and Jihad propagandists are keen on propagating divisions. These divisions are being wedged between Muslims, who want to adopt the benefits that accompany the Western culture and at the same time devoting themselves to Islam and the Muslims, who take any concession to the West as an abjuration of faith[1]. They want to create a division between the modern and medieval principles. The propagandists have been gaining a lot of support among various sections of the Muslim community. This support has been turning into violent extremism, culminating in terror attacks. Since it is difficult for an Islam outsider to influence Muslims through alternative opinions and teachings, it is vitalforthe Muslim Americans to help counter the propaganda.

Muslim leaders from across the world can have a direct impact on the way of thinking and actions of other Muslims in other parts of the world. Social media and technology have made it easier for jihadists to spread their propaganda. This poses a threat to any nation with a significant Muslim population, especially when such propagandists get an audience for their hateful campaigns. Islamic extremists have been known to be able to influence young Muslims worlds away into acts of terrorism. This has been the case for ISIS (The Islamic State in Syria). They have been able to influence young people to conduct acts in its name even where ISIS is not present. This is why the United States needs the services of Muslims and their leaders in countering this message of global Jihad. American Muslims, who understand the real American and western way of life, and how it interfaces with Islam, can help a huge deal.

American Muslims can help spread peace and tolerance among the American Muslims and their counterparts across the world. Many American Muslimshave been known to speak out against extremism and denounced any form of violence. The North American FIQH Council, which is a juristic body for Muslims, captures the views of many American Muslims. It preaches to Muslims under its jurisdiction that the use of violence against innocent lives and religious extremism is not advocated for in Islam. Islam does not justify extremism or terrorism. Many Muslims have had interpretations of the Koran and Islamic texts translated and analyzed for them. They have not had the opportunity to read and make personal judgments of these texts themselves. This iswhy the United States can utilize bodies like the North American FIQH Council in the affirmation of core Islamic principles. Such principlespromote tolerance and peace, as opposed to the Jihadist propaganda. The FIGH Council,  has been known to dissuade any acts of terrorism, targeting the property and lives and of innocent people, through suicide or other forms of attacks. They affirm that these acts are forbidden in Islam. The council also states that it is illegal for any Muslim to cooperate with individuals or groups that are involved in terrorism or violence that is prohibited[2].

With American Muslims, the United States can ensure that positive messages are givento the Muslims to counter Jihadist and Extremist ideologies pumped by jihadists daily. Condemnations of extremism and terrorism by American Muslims, including properly corresponding theological arguments are an important method the United States can utilize the American Muslims in Countering Jihadist propaganda.
