Reliability is how consistent an instrument or tool is in giving results during a study (Mateo & Kirchhoff, 2009). Researchers should use test-retest method to determine how reliable an instrument is. Using Cronbach alpha also helps determine how reliable an instrument as it tests internal consistency by calculating the values of the answers given by an assessment instrument. Once the data is collected by an instrument, the use of analysis of variance (ANOVA) in generating generalizability coefficient can help determine how reliable the instrument is. The major types of reliability of an instrument are stability, internal consistency, and equivalence.

Validity is the degree or extent to which an instrument measures what is it meant to measure (Kothari, 2005). In determining the validity of an instrument, researchers should check the content of the instrument, and this includes identifying the person who created the instrument. For instance, if the instrument used during a study is created by a national expert, there is a high possibility of it being valid as compared to when it is created by a local expert. Researchers can also determine how valid an instrument is by relating its outcomes to other outcomes done previously. The major types of validity of an instrument include readability, content-related, construct-related, and criterion-related validities. 

The strength of the reliability and validity section of the article is that one method i.e. Cronbach’s Alpha has been used to test the all the results. The weakness of the section is that only internal consistency is tested while other validities such as stability and equivalence are not tested.

The use of the same tool in the past and present would not give reliable and valid resultsa and it is because, despite using the same tool, there are aspects of the participants which will have changed over time. For instance, variables such as decision latitude, psychological demands, and social support vary from workplace to workplace and change over time.
