The original research topic was ‘The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Anxiety Scores from Social Isolation in the Virtual Workplace’. A change in wording is seen in the recent research topic which is ‘The effect of Emotional Intelligence on performance in the Virtual Workplace’. It is because of the research literature. It was discovered that several literatures with information on the original topic concentrated more on how high emotional intelligence (EI) leads to correspondingly high levels of performance in the virtual workplace and vice versa. For example, recent research such as Barbuto & Burbach (2006), and Mandell & Pherwani (2003) indicate that higher levels of emotional intelligence are strongly related or lead to high levels of performance in the virtual workplace. The research adds that increasing Emotional Intelligence of team members can increase participation of the members, resulting in high performance (Yao et al., 2009).

The original research problem statement was that a virtual workplace is a unique environment that has some drawbacks on the team members. Notably, there is no change in the research problem statement. The reason is that several research literatures, both previous and recent, argue that virtual workplaces result in social isolation among team members because of the lack of physical interactions.

For a person to find more literature on the research topic, location of library books relevant to the topic and using the right search engines such as Google is necessary. Once the two have been secured, the individual doing the research should check the relevance and how current the research material is. Besides, the individual doing the research should evaluate the source of material by checking its quality of information (De et al., 2011).
