Eastvale is a city located towards the Northwest region of California’s Riverside County. The area is bounded by the San Bernadino county line (Hellman and Bellgrave avenues), interstate 15, Santa Ana River and Norco. The current population is estimated at 57,000 from 53, 668 from the year 2010-census statistics (Meissner & Kim, 2013). The city witnessed a revolution in the late 1990s, from an agricultural and dairy center to a real estate economic house. The demand for housing from the neighboring orange country resulted in the development of housing units in the region. Incorporation of the area by the Eastvale Incorporation Committee begun in the mid-2000s to 2010 with the major projects being based on the Leal project (Meissner & Kim, 2013). The project concentrates on mixed-use growth of public center and lifestyle center and other uses acknowledged over public contribution.

The agenda item chosen in this essay was the proposal that was made by Dr. Lin, which was a consideration in the reduction of the primary grades, and an increment to the funds raised for the high school (Advanced Placement) AP tests and courses. The players that involved in the proposed approach by Dr. Lin include the students, tutors, parents, and leaders in the areas. The concern of education surpasses the demands placed on the students by society, as it needs to be forged to meet the demands of the job market. In the meeting, the key players who were involved includes Dr. Lin (superintendent), Ike Bootsma (Mayor), and Bill New Berry (Board Member).

The issue was raised from the realization that the qualifications and achievements of students in the classes were varied and more input was necessary for uniformity. The example of some students who are not considered AP qualified requiring more teaching and training in areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics, just to mention a few.

The need for education is paramount to society, especially with the radical developments in fields such as technology, medicine, and industry. Logically, the job market demands various skills and abilities and it is the ability to provide the demands that experts are hired. Education is a key to globalization, employment, and socialization in general. Educating the public is a necessity that has been identified by international organizations, but the structure and modes are left to the individual and localized governments. The approach proposed concentrates on the capability of the students, considering the variations in performance, and the need to ensure minimal deviation in performance across all students irrespective of origin, race, and economic status.

The issue becomes an urban concern since not all students enrolled in schools have attained the AP qualification. Placing students in AP classes is a strategy that facilitates the development of some children, while deters the growth of others as well as demoralizes their growth. Identification of the gifted and talented students has been a practice that has been used for AP classes, yet its effects on the selected students as well as the unqualified students is yet to be determined.

There is need to ensure equality among students as well as develop skills beyond the academic, and segregation in the school instigates practices of dissociation. For the healthy growth of a comprehensive society, the AP classes should not be encouraged. The committee concluded that more needed to be done for the education sector, and further research and insight into the issue was needed prior to any major changes.
